A-Z of Restaurants in Bath

While the proprietors make much of their ‘Eat, Drink, Smile’ mission statement, The Pig would like to add ‘Lively, Fresh and Fun’ to the description of the Banglo experience. Although the name might suggest otherwise, there are no significant references to either Bengal or the Punjab here (you’re thinking bangra/bangla – or perhaps that’s just The Pig). Rather, this is an eclectic cultural experience combining a warm and welcoming dining area, a covered, cushion-strewn veranda (blankets provided on chillier nights), a lovely patio outback, a juke box that claims to access ‘any published song in the world’ (or your first drink is free) and a wide range of events, including salsa classes and a cookery school. Phew! Food, meanwhile, is all about substantial, impeccably sourced classics, all cooked to order. Sunday roasts go large, the Banglo Burger is highly recommended and many folk swear by the fresh fish dishes. The Pig recommends, however, that if you’re after an intimate dining experience, eat early: come 10pm, this initially peaceful oasis quickly morphs into a hip hotspot with a distinctly party-on vibe.

We went to Banglo – finally – after seeing it several months ago and vowing we would grace its space with our presence
We enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace upon wicker chairs but were disappointed the piano wasn’t in tune!! However, the tasty king prawns in filo pastry (think Japanese tempura) and chips with a chilli sauce went down very well – and also warmed us up on that March evening! All in all a very pleasant evening – with a friendly bar tender/waitress who told us stories of a recent wedding in that very place… Now, there’s a thought
