A-Z of Restaurants in Bath

"It’s only a short trawl even on foot from the city centre to this calm, countryside experience."

In its own quiet way, the BB is one of those ‘only in Bath’ experiences. You can, if you wish, choose to take a boat trip from Pulteney Weir and be dropped off right at the door here: the restaurant is right on the river, almost attached to the Victorian Bath Boating and Punting Station, in a wooden chalet-style building, which features tables on the first-floor veranda that overlook the gentle, splish-splash action (book early for one of the best tables in the house in summer months; the indoor dining room, though charming and cosy, is surprisingly not a room with a view). That said, it’s only a short trawl even on foot from the city centre to this calm, countryside experience. Food is all homemade, infused with rustic — often eclectic — flair. Find Mediterranean classics alongside very robust Brit-trad treats, and a roast on Sundays that takes you right back to family dinners at home. All in all, the BB sits in a category all of its own: neither gastro nor prosaic pub; almost a bistro, but not quite a smart restaurant. Unique? You’ve got it.
