black line Firehouse Rotisserie
"A lively atmosphere and an open kitchen specialising in classic Californian fare."

Firehouse Rotisserie head honcho Richard Fenton is one of Bath’s most modest food heroes. The man responsible for establishing both Grappa and, latterly, the chic Hudson Bar and Grill (see listing) is also the force behind both the Bristol and Bath branches of the FR: long-standing but always fresh-faced favourites on the eating out scene. But do you ever see or hear him braying about his success? No. But The Pig is happy to do it on his behalf. At the original FR branch, find chunky furniture, a lively atmosphere and an open kitchen specialising in classic Californian fare (huge salads, gourmet brick-fired pizzas and great steaks, all with plenty of Pacific Rim twists) alongside top-notch rotisserie faves, including chicken, lamb and fish. Meanwhile, the building itself dates back to the Georgian era but the extensive wine list is bang up to date.

Take the kids?
‘Small plates’, rotisserie chicken and, of course, those brick fired pizzas are particularly appealing to teenagers, while staff have a welcoming attitude to those with smaller children. There’s not much space for prams, though, and baby changing facilities are minimal.
