black line La Flamenca
"You're unlikely to find chacinas ibéricas of this quality elsewhere in the region."

The food (and the mood of the owners and serving staff) can be a hit-and-miss affair at this long-standing, family-run, authentic Spanish tapas bar and restaurant, but when the going is good, you’re in for a treat. La Flamenca looks like the kind of Andalucian bar-bistro that you’ll find listed in Lonely Planet but is fortunately yet to be discovered by package tour sunseekers: roughly hewn white walls, vaulted ceilings and upturned sherry barrels used as tables in the bar area; lots of wicker and black lacquered wood in the restaurant. On regular ‘Fiesta’ weekends, one of the owners dons her mantilla, grabs her castanets and joins in with the Spanish dancing displays, while relatives serve bargain-priced bowls of paella from a huge cauldron in the small open-air area outback. The tapas, though, is what people flock to La Flamenca for: you’re unlikely to find chacinas ibĂ©ricas of this quality elsewhere in the region, the aubergines with honey are sublime and even the patatas bravas deserve top billing.

Take the kids?
La Flamenca makes a big fuss of little people, offering storage space for pushchairs and baby changing facilities and actively encouraging children to join in the fun when the Spanish dancing starts. Tapas, meanwhile, makes for a naturally kiddie-friendly selection, but the stone steps can make access difficult
