A-Z of Restaurants in Bath
Sunday 5th September 2010
Those already familiar with the Hudson’s slick, ‘Sex and the City’ vibe are well aware that Walcot Street’s ‘Artisan Area’ isn’t only about looking back to the original summer of love. It might be slightly off the beaten track in terms of glitz and glamour, but somehow this Richard (Firehouse Rotisserie) Fenton brainchild gains extra cool points for that very fact. Find a relaxing, open-plan bar at street level (sexy low-lights and nice soft cushions, with a cocktail list to match) and a stylish diner upstairs, where upmarket versions on a classic Californian theme (grills, salads, surf’n'turf) arrive in beautifully presented, distinctly non-British (ie. generous) portions. Well-sourced, well-hung steaks in particular are undoubtedly the kitchen’s primary superstars, and while quality of this standard doesn’t come cheap (upwards of £19.95 in fact, sans necessary sides - the only glitch on an otherwise faultless horizon), you really do get what you pay for: The Pig reckons that the Hudson serves the best steak and chips in Bath.
