A-Z of Restaurants in Bath
Monday 6th February 2012
Bathonians do love their institutions. And while the Queensberry Hotel has quietly morphed its way from stuffy old establishment to hip boutique hotel, Olive Tree restaurant has cleverly managed to straddle what could have been a huge divide, creating a stylish foodie zone that holds broad appeal for both tribes — and those in between. Having said that, the restaurant isn’t a party zone: the clientele tend to talk in whispers rather than screams, and you’d feel a bit out of place in your weekend casuals, even if your jeans happen to be Juicy Couture. So dress nice, sit back and let the food shriek for you: menus that combine gentle innovation with well-honed tradition to great effect, sparkling with unpretentious charm. The Old Q Bar has recently been revamped to uber-stylish, tres glam standards, and the patio out back has a ‘secret garden’ feel as the sun goes down and beyond.

Our second visit to the Olive Tree and this time it was combined with a stay (upstairs) at the Queensbury Hotel. The snow didn’t stop us arriving on Saturday evening after a couple of hours snowfall and we were glad not to have to park the car ourselves. The hotel is very stylishly furnished with a relaxed feel to it. Our room was gorgeous and extremely comfortable.
All the restaurant staff were welcoming and friendly. When I challenged them to find me a nice glass of red wine to accompany my main and asked the same for dessert, each time they came up trumps with their recommendations. The food was outstanding and my wife and I were thrilled with each course. The service was impeccable, from the Restaurant Manager, waiting staff and barman, all seemed happy to chat and offer advice when asked.
We will certainly be coming back to the Olive Tree and I can’t recommend it highly enough that if you have the opportunity, try to combine it with a stay ‘upstairs’. Perfection. Yummy. 10/10.
We’ve been looking forward to our first visit here for some time and had dinner on Saturday. I cannot fault the food… it was sensational.
The black mark unfortunately was being forgotten after our starters, a brief apology when we enquired about our food but no explanation as to what would be done! The service was removed from our bill but it would have been nice to have someone tell us this and offer some form of clarification.
If you want great food, the Olive Tree gets a big thumbs up… but make sure there’s plenty of bread to see you through the gaps in service!
Went back for lunch and pleased to say just as good as before. £20 for three lovely courses, and a free glass of wine if booked through Toptable, you just cannot go wrong. I urge you to try it.
PS I have no relationship with The Olive Tree whatsoever but like to recommend the good from the mediocre.
We went here for lunch and were very impressed with the food we ordered. Both starters and desserts were excellent, and the mains very good. We are big fans of The Priory but this was right up there with it (although the ambience isn’t as good). Wine list isn’t cheap either so the final bill creeps up, but overall very good and will go back.
