How local is local?Tuesday, October 20th, 2009
There has been much discussion at Pig HQ lately about the elephant in the room (or in this case, the behemoths in a city that prides itself on support for independent businesses) that is the Big Chain. Take Jamie’s Italian, for example. We highlighted the arrival of Jamie’s Italian in Bath as a news story because… well, because it was a news story. But Pukka Boy isn’t exactly local, and Oliver’s Army is on a takeover bid throughout the UK. So does that mean his restaurant isn’t Pigworthy? After much deliberation, philosophising and pontificating, we’ve decided that The Pig treats all restaurants as equal. If you’re eating out in Bath, Jamie’s Italian – like Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Cafe Rouge, La Tasca, Browns, et al – shouldn’t be overlooked. So we’re going to investigate them on your behalf and post our findings here soon, leaving it up to you define where your taste leads you. After all, that’s what The Pig is here for.
