…following the lovely Beaujolais Restaurant and Bar blog (visit www.beaujolaisbath.co.uk and follow the links)
…enjoying the abundant new season’s harvest (plums, mushrooms and squash in particular), but wondering if the Bath Farmers’ Market stallholders are actually over-pricing themselves out of business altogether (top tip: visit – and support – your local greengrocer instead?)
…getting a bit annoyed at restaurants who are already offering their Christmas menus alongside the regular menu but refuse to offer mulled wine until December. Talking about getting annoyed…
Dirty Business
The eccentric English cleric and writer Charles Caleb Colton once said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – and on many levels, he was probably right. But a person who pretends to be someone or something they’re not are most definitely not to be trusted. So will the person who, on at least three occasions (that we know of) recently, has eaten in certain restaurants and afterwards claimed to be ‘The Pig’ (in an effort, we’re assuming, to be offered a discount on the bill?) please stop doing it, with immediate effect? The Pig is, to eating out in Bath, what The Stig is to the BBC’s ‘Top Gear’ (preferably without the lawsuits or the need for crash helmet) – and, by the way, nobody on The Pig’s team ever attempts to blag free scoff.
