Without a doubt me and my husbands favorite place to eat in town. The food is fresh and full of flavour, fast service and friendly staff ( especially Adelaide who is great fun and will always recommend a dish if you're stuck on the menu!) very reasonably priced too - can highly recommend.

Excellent fish and chips? I beg to differ. I recently opted for what the Garrick's confidently call 'The Best Fish and Chips in Bath' (the statement was even written on a chalk board outside the pub on the evening we visited) and ended up paying £9.95 for a slab of the blandest, watery, totally taste-free fish (coley? Hake? Even the staff weren't sure...) I've ever encountered, accompanied by potato wedges (they're good, but they're NOT chips) and a massive pile of salad. Salad! With fish and chips? No, no, no. Buyer (and those seduced by 'Best...' claims) beware.

PS. The burgers are brilliant, though. Perhaps the Garrick's should change that chalk board?

Try their cookery courses too!

One of my favourite places to eat in Bath - delicious (relatively) authentic food in generous portions and at very reasonable prices. I had a light and fresh Wanton Soup side with a main of Roast Duck and Char Siu with stick rice, a frosty bottle of Asahi and all the green tea I could drink for just over £12. The service is fast and friendly and the always strong Asian contingent among the clientele, in my opinion, speaks volumes for the quality of the food on offer. The next best thing to Chinatown!

I completely agree with your opening paragraph, where you mention the Blackstones principles of great food - but you are so very wrong to guess that they were just seeking awards and have over inflated prices. On the contrary - ask any loyal diner and they will tell you that the prices at Blackstones were all abou the quality of the produce and their refusal to use cheaper/inadequate ingredients. I know this as I was a supplier to the Blackstones and I know that the reason for their demise was that more people would have bought a 'meal deal' from Subway for £1.99 - just a question of economics. I also know that they invested and subsequently lost a great deal of their own money in their dream and for that effort - they should be congratulated, not pilloried. Thanks! Ian.

I'd agree with the review. It's not bad, but not great quality or value. I much prefer Yen Sushi.

If you go on a Monday for the blue plate day (everything is charged at the blue plate price), you'll soon notice not everything is available on the menu (ie the higher priced dishes aren't there), and some items will actually end up costing you more than a normal day. What they give with one hand they take away with the other, so you'll end up paying pretty much the same anyway.

I was unsure of going to a steakhouse as I don't eat meat but my boyfriend who is a big meat eater convinced me to join him for dinner. We were shown to a table by the window. I ordered the seafood black ink spaghetti which was absolutely delicious and my boyfriend had the 20oz porterhouse and ate every bit. He loved it. We will be returning soon.

My husband and I werevisiting Bath to celebrate our anniversary, We were looking for sonmewhere to go with a great view, food and ambience..
We were recommended GGs by the weir and were not dissapointed.
The staff were friendly and informative, the steak was cooked to perfection and succulent probably the best steak I have ever eaten, we had sticky toffee pudding which melted in your mouth.
The owner who is the chef visited out table to ask if we were happy, you dont often get this in restaurants now adays. he mentioned that they had recently changed and were just letting people know, the menu had a great selection of meats as well as other dishes. The set us back £64.00 with a bottle of wine. I would definitely recommend GGs to anyone wanting good food and atmosphere, we went on a thursday evening and the restaurant was fairly busy, I would definitely recommend the restaurant to people wanting great food in a great location.
