Last week, Great Western Wine announced that it has been ‘acquired’ by dynamic wine importer and distribution company Enotria for an undisclosed sum. On the same day, a scheme aimed at bringing a Tesco supermarket to the former Bath Press site on the Lower Bristol Road was formally lodged with the council. But while the GWW/Enotria merger looks like a positive move (both companies share a very similar philosophy and business will carry on as usual at the GWW Wells’ Road HQ), the imminent arrival of ‘the fourth largest retailer in the world’ will indeed shake things up within the Bath foodie community. What do you think about the Enotria/GWW merger – and is Tesco: a force for good…or inherent evil? Come on, fellow Pigs – have your say.
Say wha-a-a-a-t?
Call us pedants if you must, but The Pig couldn’t help chuckling at a promotion in the latest Bath Life newsletter offering subscribers a ‘Free bottle of win with Say Pasta’. What, a whole bottle of win??? That’s quite a prize! For the real deal, google the words ‘free bottle of wine at Say Pasta’: the actual offer (a free bottle of wine when you order two main courses between Sun-Tue evenings) is open to all, not just those who subscribe to spelling errors.
