Lounging around
Friday, September 11th, 2009
On a mission to spread the trough a little bit further, I’ve started to explore the gorgeous (or otherwise) pubs that nestle in the countryside around Bath, beginning with a trip to the delectable Mill at Rode (expect the full lowdown to appear on the main site soon). As I was nearing the end of a splendid dish of Longleat Estate lamb, a bulletin was being dispatched to Pig HQ, the like of which makes me wonder if there really ain’t no such thing as coincidence.
Bristol-based company Flatcappers, responsible for the lovely Lounge chain (including Velo in Bath) and the Castle in Bradford-on-Avon, have taken the lease on The Bell Inn on the Frome Road, just outside of Rode. Over the next six weeks, there’ll be no lounging around on the site as the old Bell (currently careworn and more than a tad unloved) undergoes a complete transformation inside and out, while the new chef (details yet to be confirmed) is treated to a whole new playground. Boutique-style accommodation is also in the pipeline; ding dong indeed!
